Hockney and Turner

l went down to London on Saturday to submit prints for the Originals '08 exhibition to be held in The Mall Galleries in February - will be hoping to get one or more selected!
Whilst down there l went round the Hockney on Turner exhibition at Tate Britain which is excellent (and free!) as it highlights the JMW Turner's techniques and such details as the palette of colours he used on different sketching tours. l was intrigued by his use of blue/grey paper in combination with watercolour and other media and the effectiveness of the results (great for highlights) - l will have to have a go at a similar approach myself at some point.
Had time also to pop into the British Museum to look at the second part of the selection of prints and drawings acquired by the BM - a fascinating range on view.
The day was completed by a visit to The Royal Oak to enjoy a nice meal and a pint of Harvey's excellent Christmas Ale which was just coming on as l arrived!! Perfect end to the day!
